Alpha Omicron Pi has philanthropically supported the fight against arthritis since 1967. Alpha Omicron Pi leadership chose to align philanthropically with this cause because it is the number one cause of disability in both the United States and Canada (and other locations around the world) and impacts people of all ages, genders, races, and backgrounds alike. Alpha Omicron Pi is an official partner of the Arthritis Foundation, the Champion of Yes leading the fight for the arthritis community across the United States. Alpha Omicron Pi is proud to have AOII alumna Meagan Davies (Alpha Chi Chapter/Western Kentucky U) as the Chief Development Officer of the Arthritis Foundation, working with an innovative leadership team making great changes for the arthritis community. Members of Alpha Omicron Pi in Canada also support the Arthritis Society, the only charitable organization in Canada uniquely dedicated to the fight against arthritis (source).
RENO, Nev. (May 4, 2015) -- Alpha Omicron Pi Fraternity held the first of its 2015 Strike Out Arthritis! lineup on Tuesday, April 21, kicking the season off with the Reno Aces. Over 200 people representing AOII and the University of Nevada, Reno as well as AOII family, friends, and other supporters of Strike Out Arthritis! helped raise $1,284. Money raised from this event will go to Alpha Omicron Pi’s Arthritis Fund, which supports arthritis research, education and awareness initiatives.
The nearby Reno-Tahoe Alumnae Chapter of Alpha Omicron Pi and the recently installed Delta Nu Chapter at the University of Nevada, Reno sold tickets and rallied the community around AOII and Strike Out Arthritis! Alpha Omicron Pi is partnered nationally with the Arthritis Foundation, and AOII’s collegiate and alumnae chapters in Canada also raise money for the Arthritis Society. As the leading cause of disability, Alpha Omicron Pi’s over 166,000 members are committed to raising money in support of groundbreaking medical research that may one day cure arthritis. Money raised by Alpha Omicron Pi also funds events, programming and educational resources that better the lives of people with arthritis during the search for a cure (source). |
